SENIOR INSTRUCTOR - ANNA HACQUOIL

Anna is a lawyer and has worked in the legal industry for the past 10 years. Anna's main goal is to spread the word of Krav to as many people as she can, and especially to women.

1. How did you get started in Krav Maga?
Ash had researched and tried Krav Maga previously and when he found out it was being run in Brisbane, he asked me and another friend to go along with him to check it out. I had never even heard of it!

2. What were your initial impressions of the training?
Intimidating! In my first class I was put through a drill where I had to fight off multiple attackers while on the ground. This really put me out of my comfort zone however the class members were really supportive and I felt really impressed with myself for being able to get through it!

I really like the pace of the training as it is all self-paced which means that you can push yourself a lot or, if you find some drills a bit much initially, you can step out and feel comfortable in doing so. Everyone is on their own journey.

The classes are challenging as you have to remember that you are being taught how to deal with violent confrontations however the benefits are awesome – you gain a great general awareness, confidence, good fitness and a great toolbox full of solutions to various situations that you may face in your life.

3. How long have you been training in Krav Maga?
I started training in 2004 and gained my instructor qualification from Eyal Yanilov in 2007.

4. What other experience do you bring to Krav Maga?
I think that my legal background gives me a good understanding and knowledge of use of force when dealing with physical/verbal conflicts.

5. Have you trained in any other combative systems/martial arts type systems?
Before I started Krav Maga I hadn’t trained in any martial arts type systems before. The closest thing was a bit of kickboxing that I did more for fitness than anything. I have always been into the outdoors and have always been involved in rockclimbing, bushwalking, mountainbiking and other outdoor activities. I am an avid runner too.

Since starting Krav Maga I have trained in a number of different styles as I believe that it is good to know what else is out there and why I choose Krav.

6. What advice would you give to anyone wanting to start Krav Maga?
Come along and check it out! The training is not easy – but the benefits are massive!

7. What are your goals for Krav Maga?
I believe that Krav Maga is something that every women needs to learn, both physically and mentally. I want to spread the word as much as I can. For myself, I want to continue learning and experiencing everything that Krav has to offer. One of the big reasons why I continue to train in Krav is that there is a never ending system of things to learn.
